NTPP May 14th Meeting

US Department of Transportation Secretary Mary Peters and Acting Under Secretary for Policy Tyler Duvall spoke for an hour with members of the National Transportation Policy Project at the NTPP's May 14th meeting. Among other topics, Secretary Peters and Under Secretary Duvall discussed the Urban Partnership program as an example of one of the new and innovative ideas that are reshaping how transportation is funded and projects prioritized. Relevant to the NTPP's work, the Urban Partnership program emphasizes the advantages of direct road-pricing in reducing congestion, delivering economic benefits, generating revenues for investment, and in reducing carbon emissions and other pollutants. NTPP's members also found Secretary Peters' remarks on the federal role in transportation to be insightful and thought provoking.
