Washington, D.C. – The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) announced today that former Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Jane Garvey has been appointed Chair of its Board of Directors. Garvey succeeds John Rowe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Exelon Corporation, who served as BPC Chair from 2007-2009.

“Jane has demonstrated leadership in challenging times and has made significant contributions to the nation’s transportation system, and we are very fortunate to have her as our new Chair,” said BPC President Jason Grumet. “In particular, her storied career in public service will bring an important perspective to the Board. There’s no doubt that she will help the BPC achieve its long-term vision of bridging the divide between the political parties.”

Garvey joined Meridiam in 2009 as the Chairman of North America. Previously, she served on the Obama Administration’s transition team and worked as an advisor for JPMorgan’s PPP Infrastructure Advisory Group. She is also a member of the BPC’s National Transportation Policy Project. As head of the FAA from 1997 to 2002, Garvey led the nation's aviation system through one of toughest chapters in its history following the attacks on September 11, 2001. Appointed by President Bill Clinton, she was the first female Administrator and the first to serve a five-year term.

Garvey was Acting Administrator from 1993 to 1997 and was previously Deputy Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Before joining FHWA, Garvey was director of Boston’s Logan International Airport. She was Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Works from 1988 to 1991.
