Washington, D.C. – JayEtta Hecker, Director of Transportation Advocacy for the Bipartisan Policy Center’s (BPC) National Transportation Policy Project (NTPP), will testify tomorrow before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee during a hearing entitled “Federal, State and Local Partnerships to Accelerate Transportation Benefits.” The hearing will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in 406 Dirksen. Hecker’s remarks will be made during the second panel of the full committee hearing.

Hecker’s testimony will focus on strategies for better leveraging the federal transportation dollar through a variety of recommendations, similar to those proposed in NTPP’s recently released report, “Performance Driven: A New Vision for Transportation Policy.” NTPP is co-chaired by former Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, former Senator Slade Gorton, former Congressman Martin Sabo, and former Mayor of Detroit Dennis Archer. In June 2009, NTPP released its blueprint for creating a national transportation system that is efficient, effective, and accountable. The report presents a vision for future federal transportation policy that distributes funds in a way that rewards performance, innovation, and competition.
